What's Ahead
in 2005 Our 2005 season explores new music by composers
living in the US who Melinda O’Neal and Steven Morris
know personally. Our program will include a world premiere
of a commissioned work by Christian Wolff and new works
by Charles Dodge, John McDonald and Ileana Perez Velazquez.
These composers are imminent in the world of new music and
we are pleased to present their recent creations to you.
Also on this concert we explore music based on or related
to folksong and mythology. It’s exciting to sense
the history and associations that the stories and in some
cases the melodies have for us. Britten’s Irish folk
song arrangements, including The Last Rose of Summer, Ravel’s
Cinq mélodies populaires grecques (Five Greek Folk
Songs), Ralph Vaughan William’s Orpheus with His Lute,
Ganymede by Franz Schubert, and Brahms robust Zigeunerlieder
round out our eclectic program for both voices singing alone
and together. |
