Mission
Boston Vocal Artists seeks to advance the art of singing through
concert presentations of vocal music. We program solo art
songs, music from operas and musical theater, and vocal ensemble
music, providing singers from Boston and surrounding communities
with opportunities to perfect and perform their art. Who
We Are
Boston Vocal Artists was created in 1999 by artistic director
and pianist Steven Morris to provide performance opportunities
for solo singers in his coaching studio. First BVA performances
were recitals of opera arias and ensembles, art songs and
semi-staged one-act operas. A world premiere of Crime
and Punishment by Jeremy Conley was an early highlight,
as well as concerts of American songbook standards.
Personnel and expertise expanded over the years to include
some of Boston’s finest
young singers and collaborative leadership with conductor
Melinda O’Neal. In 2003, BVA began a series of concerts
featuring a balance of vocal solo and chamber ensemble repertoire.
This project has recently been named Sonique.
In the coming year, BVA plans to implement a Young
Artist Program to provide training and performance
opportunities for fine young singers emerging from area
colleges and conservatories.
